Race, Educational Policy, and Sociology

Credit: 3 OR 4 hours.

Examination of the origins and development of sociology as a discipline, as related to the sociology of education, and the reproduction of social and racial inequality. The course focuses on four issues: the production of racial inequality in social scientific knowledge, the role that social science plays in reproducing societal patterns of race, class, and gender inequality, the development of sociology and education in the United States and Africa, and the development of American social science and the reproduction of global inequality.

Same as EPS 422. 3 undergraduate hours. 4 graduate hours. Prerequisite: SOC 100 or SOC 101 or SOC 163 or consent of instructor.
