	70849	Lecture	NS4	10:00AM -11:50AM	MW	Talbot Laboratory	Song, C	Part of Term: 1 Date Range: 08/27/18-12/12/18 Credit: 4 hours Section Title: Nuclear Reactor Safety Section Info: This course consists of three main parts: The first part will be focused on the fundamentals of securing the nuclear reactor safety and how to prevent the accidents with engineered safety features practically applied to the design and operation of nuclear reactors. The second part will be mainly on how to mitigate nuclear accidents and how to evaluate them through advanced safety analysis. The major thermal-hydraulic phenomena together with underlying theory will also be discussed for both design basis accidents (DBA) and beyond DBA, including severe accidents. And the third part will cover some topical issues which are very relevant to nuclear reactor safety, and they include not only some of generic safety issues but also newly emerging issues. The emphasis will be made mainly on the safety of existing and advanced light water reactors. But the radiation safety and the radiological application safety will not be covered in this course. Prerequisite: NPRE 402; or concurrent registration in NPRE 448 recommended. Restriction(s): Restricted to Graduate - Urbana-Champaign.
