Making Video Essays
Section Info:
This course examines the theory and practice of videographic criticism, a burgeoning scholarly practice in media and cinema studies, in a workshop-style environment. Through weekly parameter-based videographic exercises using pre-existing media of their choice, students will learn how to conduct videographic research by critically exploring media texts using non-linear editing software (Adobe Premiere Pro). Assignments will include several videographic projects as well as a final synoptic video essay. A diverse variety of explanatory, algorithmic, and poetic approaches to the video essay will be covered.
