Examination of the creative process of fiction from the perspectives of aesthetics and techniques, illustrated from the work of selected authors.

This semester, we will be reading recently published novels and comparing the writers’ approaches to style, character, structure, story, plot, pacing, and theme, and looking at how these elements are combined in each case. Responsibilities include completing reading assignments by the due date, active participation in classroom discussion, one response paper per week, one presentation, and a final paper. Restriction(s): Restricted to Creative Writing major(s) or minor(s). Restricted to Graduate - Urbana-Champaign.
