This course uses a two-week field trip to national park units of Colorado and Utah to study the political setting of national parks and ecosystem management. We will also examine management issues such as cultural preservation, historical interpretation, tourism, wildlife, and wilderness. These parks include archaeological, historical, and spiritual resources that are significant to the indigenous peoples of the Southwest, so we will also examine the legal and policy environment of Native American relations with the federal government. Students will also learn the legal and administrative setting for National Park Service policy-making. There is a course fee of $800 that will cover all transportation and lodging, all entrance fees, and almost all meals. For more information, see https://publish.illinois.edu/pahre/colorado/
