Students develop their musicianship through reflective engagement with a variety of approaches to non-performance oriented music learning. Equal emphasis is placed on various kinds of music (literature and repertoire) and the ways in which teachers can structure experiences for students. Students will plan and lead experiences, sing and perform on a variety of instruments, and review recent research and scholarship in the field.

2 undergraduate hours. 2 graduate hours. Prerequisite: MUS 240 and MUS 342.

Topic: Music Experiences With Incarcerated Youth. In this course students design and facilitate weekly music session for youth detained at the Champaign County Detention Center. Course is intended for music education majors, dance majors, and community arts minors, but all majors are welcome to enroll. Weekly class MEETS AND IS HELD AT THE DETENTION CENTER. Meets with FAA 391.

Not intended for students with Freshman class standing.
