We will examine various forms of "digital humanitarianism" that use new media in support of disaster relief, human rights monitoring, environmental activism, and other causes. Course projects will involve hands-on experience with new media resources such as collaboration platforms and crowdsourcing techniques. Those taking the course for graduate credit will read and extend mediatization theory. Restriction(s): Restricted to Graduate - Urbana-Champaign.
