Section Title: The Animal Self Section Info: A selection of literary texts from Greece, Rome, and the subsequent Western tradition in which animals are either protagonists or narrators. Recurring themes include: identity, boundaries and their transgression, reason and language, emotions and desire. Readings include selections from Homer’s Odyssey, Plutarch’s Gryllos, Ovid’s Metamorphoses, Apuleius’ Golden Ass, Anna Sewell’s Black Beauty, Jack London’s Call of the Wild, Richard Adams’ Watership Down.
