Topic: Global Trends in Pollinator Health The vital role of pollinators in natural and agricultural ecosystems has come to the fore with the recognition that many species in different parts of the world are suffering severe declines. The last decade has seen a plethora of research investigating declining populations and some examining possible causal factors of the declines, indicating pathogens, pesticides and climate change. The studies comprise short reviews or regional analyses of pollinator declines on different continents with some evidence suggesting different causal factors in different areas. The goal of this seminar course is to summarize the global situation in a review of the literature that will broadly collate and discuss the causes of these declines as they relate to the environment and biology of the organism. A comprehensive review of pollinator health will provide a solid framework going forward from which to make responsible personal and political decisions about the future health and conservation of pollinators. For Entomology graduate students, this course counts for Ecology or Systematics. Students from other programs are *absolutely* welcome--among other things, Dr. Cameron, who is a world authority on bumble bee systematics, conservation, and health, will be retiring in the near future, so this course presents a timely opportunity to learn about an ongoing ecological concern of global importance.
