Section Info:
Introduction to Dance assumes an Africanist’s orientation in looking at 20th- and 21st-century social and theatrical dance forms in North America. With Black performance at the center of analysis, students will focus on major stylistic traditions, influential choreographers, dancers, and discuss relevant theorists. Through readings, video and concert viewings, research projects, and class discussions, students will develop an understanding of these forms in relation to their own dance practice.
