Advanced seminar providing in-depth exposure to the principles, values, ethics, issues and practice of family therapy in social work. Focuses on family therapy process, the practitioner role, issues in assessment, intervention and evaluation; how discrimination and oppression impact intervention strategies; skills that advance social and economic justice; presentation of cases; use of supervision and consultation, and family therapy with diverse populations. Combines lecture/discussion with taped observations of noted family therapists and participation in a family therapy practicum.

Prerequisite: SOCW 400.

This course includes a practicum/lab requirement for the middle 8 weeks of the semester. During the 8 weeks of the practicum, students will meet in the classroom from 1:00-3:50 and will also be scheduled in one of three time blocks between 4:00 and 8:30 PM. Dates are: 2/11, 2/18, 2/25, 3/10, 3/17, 3/31, 4/7, 4/14. Please contact MSW Program Director or Instructor if you have questions.
