Power and Money: Understanding How Wall Street Affects Main Street Consider this a crash course for folks who want to be smarter about how Wall Street and Washington influence what happens everywhere from Hollywood to Haiti. We’ll discuss the good, the bad and the ugly sides of capitalism, including some of the best movies that boast: “Greed is Good.” We’ll see how the power brokers’ decisions trickle down to Main Street and the dwindling Middle Class. Taught by a former Wall Street Journal reporter. No prerequisites or textbooks required.

TOMORROW’S NEWS TODAY: SOCIAL AND DIGITAL MEDIA No pre-requisites, but ADV 150 or JOUR 200 preferred Working with local news organizations on an experimental project to research, create and implement new social media strategies that target key demographics and seek to increase audience habituation and engagement. Includes brainstorming, analyzing and working hands-on as social media coordinators. Designed in consultation with Top 10 newspaper where instructor was visiting professor of social media this summer. May also include introduction to digital publishing skills, including HTML5, CSS3, content management systems, interactivity and non-linear storytelling. Course specifically seeks serious students from diverse majors to participate in interdisciplinary team project.
