Location Pending	Bailey, R McMillion, D	Part of Term: B Date Range: 03/14/16-05/04/16 Special Approval: Departmental Approval Required Section Title: Exploring the Civil Rights Mov Section Info: Exploring the Civil Rights Movement provides an opportunity to students participating in the Civil Rights Pilgrimage to deepen their study of theCcivil Rights Movement in the U.S. South. The objectives of the course are to 1) study how youth got involved in key Civil Rights campaigns in several cities (Greensboro, Little Rock, etc.) and the development of the Student Non-Violent Coordinating Committee; 2) explore scholarship on social movements as a whole and how social change occurs; and 3) examine the Civil Rights Movement in broader historical context, and to better understand what came before and what came after. The course is restricted to students who have signed up for the Civil Rights Pilgrimage tour over Spring Break and who have gotten departmental approval from the Department of African American Studies.
