Section Title:
Slavic Languages Pedagogy
Section Info:
Topic: Slavic Languages Pedagogy. This is a 2-credit seminar for graduate students who are currently teaching or getting ready to teach languages in the Slavic department. It will introduce students to some of the most important current concepts, methods, and terms in foreign language teaching and lead them in a series of practical exercises to help them apply some of these ideas in their own teaching as well as receive feedback from their peers on the effectiveness of such applications. In the course of the seminar, we will also reflect on the principles that underpin our language teaching right now, formulate our statements of teaching philosophy, and share insights into what can make language teaching both efficient and enjoyable. By the end of the semester, seminar participants can expect to gain practical skills in developing effective activities for classes of varying language levels and to be well on their way to building their teaching portfolios.
