Section Title:
Designing with Water
Section Info:
This course examines how people have over time manipulated the great rivers in China to control floods or to generate electricity, and how painters and filmmakers have responded to the negative consequences of these engineering projects. Can we learn to use water in a sustainable way? Can notions about nature and change found in ancient Chinese texts contribute to devising a solution? In an attempt to address these vexing issues, we shall experiment with traditional designs for a Chinese garden.
Restriction(s):
Restricted to Undergrad - Urbana-Champaign.
Restricted to First Time Freshman or Transfer student - first time students.
