Survey of the different constituents of the Universe, including galaxies, active galaxies, galaxy clusters, and intergalactic gas. Particular emphasis will be placed on observable properties of the Milky Way and other galaxies, as well as relating such observations to the understanding of the dynamics and evolution of galaxies.

Prerequisite: ASTR 406 or consent of instructor.
