Covers topics of special interests to rising professional translators in the three areas of specialization of the MA in Translation and Interpreting: Applied Literary Translation, Translation for the Professions and Interpreting. Examples of topics may include: Translation for Government, Literary Translation, Translation and Digital Humanities.

May be repeated in separate terms for a maximum of 8 hours.

Graduate students in the MA in Translation and Interpreting and the graduate certificate or planned graduate minor in translation.

Topic: Audiovisual Translation: Film Subtitling Instructor: Robert Jenkins This course will provide students with a foundation in the theoretical issues of subtitling and practical instruction in the technological skills needed. The course is open to graduate students of all language pairs. The main semester project will consist of a film segment, short film, or other appropriate visual medium complete with audiovisual translations and embedded subtitles. An accompanying narrative description of the translation-subtitling process is additionally required.
