TOPIC: Nietzche and His Heirs The course centers upon extensive reading in a broad selection of Nietzsche?s representative and greatest books (BOT, UD, D, GS, Z, BGE, GM, TI, EH). As we study Nietzsche?s writings, we will assess how Martin Heidegger and Gilles Deleuze have shaped our reception and understanding of Nietzsche. We also will consider how Nietzsche anticipates and sometimes surpasses important contemporary intellectual trends including new materialisms, theories of emergent causality and complexity, and the relationship between human consciousness and biological life. Meets in 404 DKH.
