Drawing on historical, literary, and sociological perspectives, we will engage such topics as: race and racism in France and French thought; the formation and stigmatization of the "banlieues"; the histories and legacies of (post)colonial (im)migrations; and the reception of "postcolonial studies" in the French academy. (Taught in English; reading ability in French required)
