The course provides an overview of education research with a focus on real-world application and an opportunity to accomplish a personally relevant applied project related to global education. Students will review literature related to diverse frameworks for applied research, critically analyze their underlying assumptions, and plan a project of suitable size and scope as an integrative effort at the end of their graduate program.

Prerequisite: 20 hours of graduate course work in GSE. For majors only.

Course Description: This course will introduce education research methodology and consider the cultural, political and ethical implications of engaging in education research in cross-cultural, global contexts. Students will learn to select an appropriate topic for research, effectively navigate and use an academic research library, conduct a literature review, and craft a literature review portion of a larger research project. Students will be able to engage in professional and academic scholarship and professionally present their findings as a respectful voice in professional and academic dialogue. Students will present their topic, research and the literature review in an academic conference format.
