Painting for Non-Majors

Credit: 3 hours.

Students will work with a wide variety of painting materials, methods and strategies in a studio art context. Students will explore painting concepts, form, and technique through production and critique of artworks, as well as address theories and histories of visual representation through readings and discussion. Students with little or no background in visual art are encouraged to participate along with those who have significant knowledge and experience.

This course is designed to allow students from other areas of study to explore watermedia as an accompaniment to drawing. Students will explore basic drawing concepts, color theory, and watercolor techniques, such as washes and wet on wet painting. This class focuses on the production of art in a studio environment as well as discussion of the history and theory behind watermedia use. Students with little background knowledge of drawing and watermedia are encouraged to participate as well as those who may have more experience.
