Section Info:
This introductory course systematically examines a wide range of topics related to the proliferation and use of digital media in a networked world, including psychology, social relationships, culture, economics, politics, and philosophy. It is designed to prepare students for living and working in an increasingly mediated society in which digital technologies are omnipresent yet ubiquitous. While the scope of this course is highly interdisciplinary, its emphasis will be placed on specialist knowledge for media professions such as advertising and journalism.

Millen Res Proj Indus Immer
Section Info:
Students in this course will be tasked with designing, implementing and interpreting this research. Working with faculty, students will conduct focus groups, surveys and other research on millennials. Students will also attend the SXSW conference in Austin, Texas in March, 2015, to conduct primary and secondary research there. At the conclusion of the spring 2015 semester, the students will present their findings to clients. Students will also apply to participate in the Undergraduate Research Symposium at Illinois. Interested students should apply at: http://go.media.illinois.edu/sxsw. The fee for the course may be up to $2,850. Applications are due 12/8. PREREQUISITES: ADV 281/481 (Research Methods) and ADV 390/450 (Content Creation)

Using Tech to Solve Adv Probs
Section Info:
Meets with CS 498-ADV (CRN 59208) This project-based course will allow teams of media and computer science students to use technology platforms to solve problems supplied by industry clients. Each student will bring their expertise to the problem at hand. Media students will learn capabilities and limitations of different technology platforms, will learn how the end user will be impacted by technology decisions, and how they can help achieve advertising objectives with their code design.
