Documenting Sporting Cultures
Section Info:
Taking its inspiration from ESPN's 30 for 30 documentary series, this course investigates various documentary practices related to sport and race, gender and class issues and disability rights. General topics we will discuss include: sports fans; University sport sponsorships; college athletic culture; football and health issues; disability and sports; and sport celebrity scandal. In addition to our readings and screenings, we will make our own short documentary film as a class about a topic arising from our study. First Year Discovery Program Course. Registration restricted to freshmen. Students should enroll in only one Discovery course.
