Documenting Sporting Cultures
Section Info:
Taking its inspiration from ESPN's 30 for 30 documentary series, this course investigates various documentary practices related to sport and race, gender and class issues and disability rights. General topics we will discuss include: sports fans; University sport sponsorships; college athletic culture; football and health issues; disability and sports; and sport celebrity scandal. In addition to our readings and screenings, we will make our own short documentary film as a class about a topic arising from our study. First Year Discovery Program Course. Registration restricted to freshmen. Students should enroll in only one Discovery course.

Section Info:
Introduction to Film and Media Production. This intensive, 8-week course offers an introduction to digital film and media production. Students will acquire a professional perspective and gain experience with directing, lighting, cinematography, production design, audio recording, and nonlinear editing. The course will involve significant work in teams. Successful participants will be curious, self-motivated, organized, and cooperative.
