Section Info:
This course is focused on the applications of data science across disciplines and is supported as a Graduate College Focal Point for 2015-2016. For this Fall course, students will learn basic programming skills (advanced Excel, Matlab, Python, Unix) as well as hear from speakers across campus (e.g., Public Health, African American Studies, Art and Design) who analyze and visualize data in creative ways. This course will be followed by an offering in the Spring semester when students will do a project applying their skills to ask interesting questions about a dataset of their own. This course is directed toward graduate students without prior programming knowledge who are interested in learning these skills in a hands-on and supportive environment.
