2D/3D: Sculpture as Painting/Painting as Sculpture/Sculpture as Photo/Photo as Sculpture. This course will explore the intersection of 2D/3D studio practices. We'll look at the role of sculptural objects and 3D forms in non-sculpture idioms, such as photography and painting, installation and performance - as prop, model, and simulacra. We'll look at artists who make sculptures from photos, or use 3D objects and 2D practices to create dioramas and expand spatial dynamics, as well as the exquisitely uncanny relationship of things to pictures of things. This is class is designed for anyone in the School of A+D who has an interest in expanding their studio practice, blurring disciplinary boundaries, and creating new forms to further their individual practice. No prior sculpture experience necessary, but junior standing (or instructor approval) required.
Restriction(s):
Restricted to Graphic Design or Crafts or History of Art or Photography or Industrial Design or Painting or Sculpture or Art Education or New Media major(s).
