Credit: 1 TO 9 hours.

International experience in agricultural, consumer and environmental sciences related areas involving foreign travel and study without enrollment in another institution. Experience must be planned and approved in advance through consultation with a College of Agricultural, Consumer and Environmental Sciences faculty member.

Additional fees may apply. See Class Schedule. Approved for both letter and S/U grading. May be repeated to a maximum of 9 hours. Not open to students on probation. Prerequisite: Written consent of ACES Study Abroad Office.

Location Pending	Lee, S	Part of Term: 1 Date Range: 10/04/15-10/07/15 Special Approval: Instructor Approval Required Credit: 2 hours Section Title: P-H Loss Reductn Conf in Rome Section Info: The students will attend the First International Congress on Postharvest Loss Reduction held in Rome (Oct. 4-7, 2015). Prior to the trip, the students will be working with Ms. Megan Puzey to be trained to assist at the conference as well as develop their ideas to attend specific presentations to write a technical article on a couple of interviews they will do at the conference with the presenters. Post trip, the students will write and publish a technical article. The estimated total time students will devote to this independent study is 105 hrs, which is broken down as follows: Pre-trip training: 20-25 hours (4-5 hours/week in September) Trip: 40 hours (10 hrs/day during conference, travel time not included) Post-trip write up and publication: 40 hours (10 hrs/week for 4 weeks projected for final publication) Total credit hours: 2 credit hours Student Learning Objectives: Upon attending the conference, students will be able to? 1. Discuss global postharvest loss issues and food security. 2. Develop a ?Roadmap for PHL Reduction?, which will detail how to significantly reduce losses by 2050. Students will be part of process in which a roadmap is developed. 3. Communicate summarized information of a scientific presentation. 4. Write a technical article based on an interview with an expert.

CEI is the ideal location from which to approach the rich biology, history, and social complexity of the Bahamas, and the challenges to human life on island ecosystems where resources, such as freshwater and agricultural products, are limited. The framework of sustainability thus provides the context through which you will seek to understand the many challenges that face the inhabitants of Cape Eleuthera. Program Dates Abroad: January 2 - 17, 2016 Application Deadline: September 15, 2015 There is a program fee of approximately $3,450 - 3,550 which includes roundtrip airfare, lodging, on the ground transportation costs, most meals and international insurance.
