Directed and supervised investigation of selected topics in information studies that may include among others the social, political, and historical contexts of information creation and dissemination; computers and culture; information policy; community information systems; production, retrieval and evaluation of knowledge; computer-mediated communication.

Additional fees may apply. See Class Schedule. May be repeated. Prerequisite: For undergraduates, junior standing and LIS 202, or consent of instructor.

Section Info:
Meets all day (with lunch break) for 5 days, June 2-6. Elective course for Graduate Certificate in Special Collections (see http://www.lis.illinois.edu/academics/programs/mbms/certificate1. Description: Advanced study of the history, literature, aesthetics, and criticism of the Book Arts. This course will offer advanced study of the role of artists' book in contemporary art. It will offer students a new perspective on this diverse medium, incorporating the history of book production and its impact on societies and the cultural dissemination of information. Through readings and field trips, students will develop a critical awareness of the book as an art form. 2 UG or GR hours.
