Section Title:
Work and Labor in Sports Indus
Section Info:
In recent years professional athletes have stood among the most notable participants in labor struggles, from highly publicized lockouts in major league sports to the ongoing controversies over the status of big-time college athletics. Because of athletes? unique status as cultural icons working in a major global industry, their labor struggles offer an especially valuable subject of analysis for students and scholars of global labor studies. Students with interests and backgrounds in labor history, cultural studies and sports management are especially welcome. Course requirements include a final essay, which students will develop on a topic of interest in consultation with the instructor.
