Prerequisites: Junior standing, Introductory course in E Plant Science, Course in design or planning preferred. Description: Study of design process and principles related to food production in urban environments. Lectures will cover topics for assessing, planning, and transforming the landscape at multiple scales from regional to neighborhood to site. Group discussions will critically review readings from peer-reviewed and popular literature. Students will engage in analysis and design of an existing site to integrate multiple functions, emphasizing the permanent infrastructure and perennial vegetation. Access to a computer that can be loaded with appropriate software is necessary for mapping and design projects.

Online scheduled virtual class sessions require that each student have reliable high-speed Internet access and either a headset with microphone or an external microphone and speakers so they may participate in class discussions. Wireless Internet is not recommended.
