TOPIC: ?The Animal Self? Study of literary texts in which animals are the protagonists or narrators. Readings from Homer, Plutarch, Ovid, and Apuleius are followed by selections from Euro-American literature of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries (including Jack London?s Call of the Wild and Richard Adams? Watership Down), the classic Japanese novel I Am A Cat by Soseki Natsume, and Native American texts such as Louise Erdrich?s The Antelope Wife.
