This course examines the roles and uses of sport in tourism development and policy. These include tourism to watch sport, tourism to participate in sport, and tourism to venerate sport (famous places, museums, etc.). The motives, expectations, and experiences of sport tourists are surveyed with reference to all three forms of sport tourism. The challenges and opportunities for integrating sport into the host destination?s product and service mix are explored, and consequent requirements for effective strategic leverage of sport in tourism settings are described. Institutional arrangements for growing and sustaining sport tourism (and the effectiveness of those arrangements) are considered. Restriction(s): Restricted to Graduate - Urbana-Champaign.
