Creating a Television Show
Section Info:
Lectures and laboratory experiences in control room and studio procedures for television broadcasting. Provides the students with an opportunity for learning pre-production, production and post-production of television programs using field shooting for pre-production and multi-camera production techniques of a TV studio. Experiences provided include operation of cameras, lights, and audio in directing and producing nondramatic programs such as talk shows, commercials, and interviews. Students will explore sports journalism opportunities on campus and in the Champaign-Urbana community. Class will feature guest speakers, including representatives from print and electronic media, as well as opportunities to observe these individuals at work. This class may join a sports broadcasting Discovery class taught by John Paul for tours of UI athletic facilities and local media outlets and group projects. Photography as Methodology for Undergraduate Research in Diversity and Sustainability Photography is a fantastic medium to help people understand the world around them. Photographic storytelling is a compelling way to draw people into research and its results. This class will use photojournalism as social documentary to expose students to visual methods of research. Diversity and sustainability will be the core topics of the photgraphic research projects students will complete during this semester-long hands-on class. No prior photographic experience is required. Cameras provided if needed. First Year Discovery Program Course. Registration restricted to freshmen.
