Introduces principles and applications of chemical and isotopic analysis of geological materials, including x-ray spectroscopy, mass spectrometry and atomic spectroscopy. Lectures cover theory of analysis while practical laboratory based exercises focus on how instruments work and instrument operation. Individually tailored analysis project constitutes a major part of assessment.

Prerequisite: Consent of instructor.
