This is a Ph.D.-level course in labor economics. The course will explore a small set of papers in a number of related and unrelated topics in labor economics. In addition, we will focus on some of the basic techniques, data sets, and empirical practices in the field of labor economics. Classes will alternate between lectures and discussions on specific papers. The preliminary list of topics to be covered includes, but is not limited to: - Unemployment - Efficiency wages - Search models of the labor market - Human capital (on the job training, education, etc.) - Discrimination - Unions - Employment contracts & labor law
