Section Info:
This course will provide an overview to the structure and functioning of freshwater and marine aquatic ecosystems. In addition, we will be discussing ecological, legal, and sociological issues that impact aquatic ecosystems, and will provide an opportunity to discuss activities, approaches and strategies that can be used to solve these challenges. While many examples and scenarios discussed will be based on local/regional issues, the course will emphasize a global perspective to aquatic conservation issues and how regional differences in problems and solutions exist. Emphasis will be placed on the importance of using sound science to generate successful conservation strategies. The class will consist of both lectures & independent study. Class will meet June 5 through August 3, with NO class meeting on July 3rd. Online scheduled class sessions require each student to have high speed internet access and either a headset with microphone or an external microphone and speakers so they may participate in the class discussions. Wireless internet is not recommended.
