Topic: Identity, Culture and Citzenship in the New European Union The purpose of this course is to provide students with an understanding of the profound changes in Europe primarily from the perspective of the social sciences and the humanities. By the end of the class, successful students will be able to a) identify the main cultural issues and conflicts in the politics of European integration, b) make the connection between a number of political decisions and social phenomena on the one hand and problems in European identities and ideals on the other c) to apply newly learned social science concepts to various social and cultural issues in Europe and d) to distinguish among and evaluate different research techniques applied to the study of European culture and identity.
