Topic: 'The 'Arab Spring'. In this eight-week course, we will discuss the current events that are taking place in the Arab world. We will explore the background to these events, the factors that are driving them, and the short term and long term implications for the Arab countries and the regional and world powers, particularly the U.S.A. and Europe. The course will be team taught by University of Illinois faculty with expertise in cultural studies, economics, education, history, linguistics, literature, media, religion, political science, and sociology, and who have intimate knowledge of the countries involved. ?The Thursday evening sessions will be devoted to discussion and film screenings.? This is instead of ?Each week there will be an online discussion or film/documentary screening.?
