Section Title:
Families in Flux
Section Info:
Century families are on the move across land and sea in this era of globalization. The result of this intercultural contact is many families today are in clutural flux: youth, both migrants and non-migrants, are coming of an age in a more complex cultural neighborhood. Parent-child gaps in acculturation can impact parenting, family values and family interaction. The purpose of this advanced seminar is to examine the phenomenon of acculturation in youth and families who come about intercultural contact via two different pathways: 1) immigration and 2) globalization. Will also address how youth and families adapt to being in cultural flux, including known risk and protective factors.
