In this service-learning course, students will help teachers in elementary and/or middle schools to teach various IT concepts. In addition, students will learn to program in the Etoys environment, and help teach Etoys programming to sixth-grade students. The course will meet occasionally with the instructor, but regularly once or twice each week in the classroom.

Topic: Thinking about Computer Science Designed for students enrolled in CS 125 who are new to programming and are looking for extra help in a small classroom setting. This one credit course shows how to analyze algorithms, solve computational problems, debug and write complete working programs. Examples will be drawn from material covered in CS 125. Requires concurrent enrollment in CS 125.

Labs Meet in 0218 Siebel Center Topic: Programming Lab is intended to strengthen the programming skills of students who have completed CS125. Focus will be on practical skills in constructing completed code in a methodical, reliable way. Code form and approach to construction will be stressed. Students will learn proper commenting, naming and formatting of their source code, Test Driven Development and unit testing. Students will learn some Ruby and C++. This class is intended for students that have completed CS 125 but have not taken CS 225.

Restricted to Computer Science or Statistics & Computer Science or Math & Computer Science major(s). Restricted to students with Freshman or Sophomore class standing.
