Topic: Japanese Aesthetics. Through the study, exposure, and immersion into Japanese aesthetics and culture, it is hoped that students will acquire a better understanding of how the idea of beauty permeates through many aspects of Japanese culture and how these ideals may be applied to their own work, interactions, and understanding of their own surroundings. Students will have hands-on opportunity to learn Chado, the Japanese Way of Tea; Ikebana, Japanese Flower Arrangement; and Japanese cooking. Guest instructor for Ikebana: Professor Kimiko Gunji. Open to campus, no restrictions.

Topic: This course will investigate various methods of industrial and commercial production through hands-on experience. Students will gain in-depth technical proficiency in the areas of sign production, plotter-cut vinyl, CNC operation, and screen printing for both flat-stock and textiles. This section is restricted to Art+Design majors with sophomore standing or above.
