Section Info:
In this service-learning section of Rhet 233, students will volunteer individually or in groups for a minimum of two hours per week at a local non-profit organization throughout the semester. In addition to on-going research-writing tasks normally found in Rhet 233, students will develop from their weekly volunteer work two capstone, writing projects that are relevant to their community partner and which explore local concerns through current scholarly research. First, students will write a research synthesis paper stemming from their personal experiences in their volunteer work site and developed fully with primary and secondary sources. The second, accomplished in consultation with the community partner, students will repurpose their research to produce a piece for the partner site. Possibilities for these projects include, but are not limited to, pamphlets, reports, web content, videos, and public presentations.
