The goal of this course is for students to begin to develop a critical understanding of the role of popular movies and television in their own lives and in U.S. culture. The course looks at issues of the relationship of media to social violence, gender identities, sexual identities, adolescents, minority cultures, and the role of the U.S. media globally. It also considers some of the major media genres that characterize U.S. popular television and movies.

This course satisfies the General Education Criteria in Fall 2022 for:

NOTE: There are a specific number of seats for each class level. Senior seats will be open on Monday, April 1st until 8:00 am on Wednesday, April 10th. Junior seats will open at 8:15 am on Wednesday, April 10th until 8:00 am on Monday, April 15th. Sophomore seats will open at 8:15 am on Monday, April 15th until 8:00 am on Thursday, April 18th. Freshman seats will open at 8:15 am on Thursday, April 18th. If seats are still available, they will open to all students around 9:00 am on Monday, August 26th.
