Section Title:
Gender, Body, Power
Section Info:
Meets with MDIA 590 and GWS 590. The seminar engages the critical studies literature on power, gender and the mediated body. By taking an intersectional and Foucauldian approach, we theorize power as discourse and the mediated gendered body as raced, sexed, and class. Special theoretical emphasis will be given to how scholars across various disciplines (history, media and cinema studies, cultural studies, literary studies) think through the ways the body/bodies are defined, disciplined, governed, and consumed by publics.
