From Novel to Film
Section Info:
Why do great films sometimes yield mediocre films? And why are some to the most powerful movies based on below average novels? This course will explore the requirements, as well as the possibilities, of translating written material into film. In addition we will attempt to define cultural expectations by looking at books written in one language but made into films in a different country and culture. Examples are taken from the U.S., Latin American, Europe, Asia, and the Muslim world. First Year Discovery Program Course. Registration restricted to freshmen. Students should enroll in only one Discovery course.
