Section Info:
Topic: Theories of Modernism. This seminar examines some of the principal theories of modernism in painting. Special emphasis will be placed on the rise of modernism in the second half of the nineteenth century, but twentieth-century modernism will also be part of our subject. Scholars and writers whose work will be examined include Charles Baudelaire, Clement Greenberg, Michael Fried, and T.J. Clark.
