Students enrolling in this unique AMD section will be introduced to cutting edge AMD Fusion platform technology and given access to high performance AMD machines provided by AMD. In this special section, AMD will provide technical expert guest speakers to introduce the technology, uses of the technology, and how to innovate using the technology. In addition to the technical content, fundamental concepts of entrepreneurship and commercialization of new technology in new and existing businesses will be explored. Guest speaker topics vary, but typically include: evaluation of technologies and business ideas in general; commercializing new technologies; financing through private and public sources; legal issues; product development; marketing; and speakers designed to understand new hardware and how to best use it. At the completion of the course, a project will be due that will be evaluated for possible funding opportunities with AMD and IllinoisVENTURES. AMD is a semiconductor design innovator leading the next era of vivid digital experiences with its ground-breaking AMD Fusion Accelerated Processing Units (APUs). IllinoisVENTURES is a premier seed and early-stage technology investment firm focused on research-derived companies in information technologies, physical sciences, life sciences and clean technology. 1 credit hour.
