Section Title:
Quant Res Mthd-Human Dimension
Section Info:
This course is designed to provide students with an understanding of the human dimensions of natural resources management. Resource management involves more than planning and management of biophysical resources. Our natural resources are managed by state and federal agencies under mandated missions and stated policies consisting of defined goals, objectives, and outcomes. Resources are managed in multiple ways for differing - and sometimes conflicting - goals including timber production, endangered species protection, promotion of fish and wildlife populations, and water conservation. How these resources are managed depends on social values, expressed through preferences for specific actions and outcomes. To this end, the human dimensions of natural resources management dictate how and to what extent our natural resources are managed. These social considerations cannot be separated from natural resources management.
