1 Credit hour PREPARING FUTURE FACULTY. Monday 2-3:30 pm Class will be in 170 Noyes (Chem Library). This course will teach essential skills to obtaining and succeeding in an independent academic career. Topics will include: deciding whether academics is right for you, mechanics of a job search and interview skills, writing successful independent research proposals, setting up a research program and managing a group, teaching your first class, and getting tenure. Different types of academic careers will be examined and an effort will be made to demystify the academy.
