"IMPROVISATION, COMPOSITION, AND INTERDISCIPLINARY COLLABORATION" An interdisciplinary workshop fusing improvisation, composition, and collaboration taught by Erik Lund (Music Composition, Performance), together with Kirstie Simson (Dance), and Armand Beaudoin (Mechanical Engineering, Bass and Cello Performance). We will work with sharing and adapting the principles and elements from each of these disciplines. Students will work in various combinations, performance/ improvisation will be a staple, and we anticipate presenting public performances based on what is produced in the workshop. Music students with backgrounds in improvisation and/or composition are encouraged. Music performance majors can take the course for upper level or graduate theory credit (an analytical paper will be required). For approval to enroll: interested musicians should contact Prof. Lund (eriklund@illinois.edu); interested dancers should contact Prof. Simson (ksimson55@yahoo.com); interested engineers should contact Prof. Beaudoin (abeaudoi@illinois.edu).
